Here you will find all the practical information you need to prepare your visit to Chartres Cathedral and Treasury.
Opening hours
From 5 September to 30 April: 10 am - 12:45 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm
From 2 May to 4 September: 10 am - 12:45 pm and 2 pm - 6 pm
Please note: Last visit at 4:45 pm.
Closed on Sunday mornings, January 1st, May 1st, May 25th and December 25th.
Exceptional closures
The Treasury will be closed on Wednesday 1 April, Friday 3 April, Saturday 4 April, Thursday 8 May (morning), Sunday 31 May, Saturday 15 August, Monday 2 November (morning) and Wednesday 23 December.
Due to official ceremonies or adverse weather conditions, Chartres Cathedral may be partially or totally closed on an exceptional basis. These changes in schedule are posted on our website.
In the event of exceptional closure, e-tickets purchased on the Centre des monuments nationaux online ticketing service are automatically refunded to the bank account that was debited. There is no need to make any claims. Please note that there will be a delay.
Early closure at 4 pm on 24 and 31 December 2026.

By car
From Le Mans: A11, exit no. 3 then N10 towards Chartres. From Paris: A11, exit no. 2 then N10 towards Chartres. From Rouen or Orléans: N154 towards Chartres. Chartres Cathedral is located in the heart of the city's pedestrianised historic centre.
By train
Direct train from Gare Montparnasse (Paris), then a 10-minute walk.
Good to know
- Chartres Cathédrale or Chartres Cœur de Ville public car parks
- No dogs allowed
- No smoking or vaping in the monument
- Suitcases not permitted
- No pushchairs allowed on the upper level of the monument
- Guided tours are only available in French
